Rousey crushes Correia to defend her title at UFC 190
“Then I hope we get a chance to give fans the most violent fight in the history of MMA!”
It’s wonderful that Ronda can be a role model for young girls, but I was left wondering whether her good looks undermine her talent.
With tensions high as the fight commenced, Rousey landed a knee, punches and uppercuts that pushed Correia to the edge of the cage, finishing her opponent off with a right hand shot to the temple, which toppled the Brazilian onto her face at the 34-second mark.
Considering the way Rousey has been thrashing her opposition lately, it’s no surprise that the subject of former Strikeforce champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino always seems to come up after another dominant win from the UFC women’s bantamweight champion.
Days before the actual battle royale, Correia said that she hopes that Rousey wouldn’t kill herself when she lost. Leading up to the bout, she had reportedly said that she would defeat Rousey and that the loss would drive Rousey to commit suicide-an unnecessary reference to Rousey’s father. She needed only 14 seconds to beat Cat Zingano at UFC 184 earlier this year. Now you don’t want to stand with her, because she’ll knock you to the ground. “Everything I said was very honest”, Correia said. Rousey took to Twitter in response, vowing to give Correia the “comeuppance” she deserved for involving her family in her pre-fight “trash talk”. She has finished most of her opponents with her signature armbar, but this time it was her striking force that made the difference.
“I’m prepared to deal with anything”.
For now it appears Rousey is moving on to a third fight with Miesha Tate while Cyborg will compete in Invicta Fighting Championships at least one more time before hopefully getting down to 135 pounds for a trip to the UFC in 2016.
In the second-to-last fight on the main card on Saturday, Mauricio Rua topped Rogerio Nogueira with a unanimous decision in a fight between veteran Brazilian light heavyweight fighters. Welp. All hail Ronda, the fearless envoy of pain, tears, and embarrassment, who knows no hubris or limits.
Rousey, whose last three victories have taken merely 64 seconds, has five first-round wins.
