Rousey Suffers Upset Loss At UFC PPV Event
Ronda Rousey deserves a rematch with Holly Holm after Holm’s surprising victory late Saturday in Melbourne, Australia, UFC’s leader said Sunday.
Rousey left the stadium to receive treatment for concussion and facial cuts at a nearby hospital after the knock-out loss, and skipped the post-fight media conference. “I’m trying to take it in but it’s insane”.
Holm’s excellent reflexes stood out in the second round and Rousey, trailing at this point tried to land a couple but fell on the floor attempting them.
Rousey (13-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) was famously known for finishing her fights quickly, with only one fight (against Miesha Tate) making it past the first round. However, from the beginning of the match, Holm was clearly dominating and the fight was hers. “I wanted it to be something that I’d already ran through my mind and respond in a correct way”.
The two fighters scuffled at the weigh-in after Holm stuck her fist in Rousey’s face.
“I had so much love and support”.
Holm followed up with a few strikes before the referee stopped the fight with Rousey looking considerably the worse for wear.
Ronda Rousey will get another chance to fight Holly Holm in a rematch, UFC President Dana White said.
“She’s a 19-time boxing world champion”, Rousey told Fallon, “with a 100% takedown defense and head-kick knockouts”.
Rousey, arguably the most famous UFC fighter, male or female, had been undefeated through 12 UFC bouts before meeting her match in Holms. “EA Sports is like a cultural barometer to see what’s going on in sports – it really means a lot to me to be on the cover of EA Sports UFC 2”.
It appeared Rousey was close to unconsciousness as she dropped.
Rousey went for a counter at the start of the second, pushing her rival around the ring until Holm struck back with a crisp left and a devastating left kick that instantly dropped the former to the canvas.
