Rowney’s Penguins downed in game two in Washington
Washington has gotten off to a very nice start. His opportunities in games have dwindled.
Braden Holtby stopped 32 shots and the Washington Capitals used a balanced offensive attack to defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1 to even their Eastern Conference playoff series at one game apiece on Sunday. Vrana’s power-play score, which served ultimately as the game-winner, underscored his potential importance in the second-round series. Even with all the changeover the Capitals have seen, it’s worth noting, too, that Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom and T.J. Oshie are the only players with 10 or more points for Washington against Pittsburgh in the playoffs. However, when they are the Playoff Penguins, when they are on, they are dominant, and nobody can come close to the talent that they have.
Ryan Johansen scored two goals, Viktor Arvidsson had a goal and two assists, and P.K. Subban had a goal and an assist as Nashville won both its 100th postseason game as a franchise and coach Peter Laviolette’s 50th with the team. If Pittsburgh shows any of the signs of sloppiness or unpreparedness as they did during the regular season, they are going to get burned.
What do you guys think?
The Capitals have no issue with scoring, they have the talent available. Ovechkin, Crosby and Jake Guentzel all have seven goals in the post-season, behind only Winnipeg’s Mark Scheifele. “He took me under his wing”. Offensively, his game’s come a long ways, but his physical play is, he’s trying to walk the line of being a real physical player, but play clean, keeping his elbows down, feet on the ice. During the regular season, he accounted for 42 goals and 56 assists in 78 games played.
“It doesn’t matter who’s in the game”. “You have some control of it, and you just want to make sure that you execute at the highest level”. “That’s what I’m doing”.
The incident occurred early in the second period on Sunday and saw no penalty called. Eller tapped it back, a slick give-and-go.
The Penguins gave up 20 shots in the opening period.
Brett Connolly highlighted this when the winger spoke after the Capitals win Saturday night. “The building was rocking after that. It’s a bit of an unfortunate play that he got hurt”.
The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled 13 players from their AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday, but that was hardly the news of the day. Big goal for him.
The Penguins’ Brian Dumoulin was hit by Tom Wilson and Alexander Ovechkin.
Wilson was penalized during the game for that infraction, but not suspended. If he plays, it wouldn’t be in a limited role. The Pens were trailing the caps 3-1 in the 3rd period when they were clearly robbed of a goal. He’s bringing his speed. So far in the 2018 playoffs, the only guarantee to playing at home is a monochrome backdrop provided by fans in team-specific T-shirts. National Hockey League picks on every game. The third game of the series will be played Tuesday night. In those victories, they allowed only one goal, so that will be the key in this series.
For now, Vrana will continue squeezing in extra time after practice, staying sharp and feeling the puck. But not only is it frustrating to watch but unsafe, evidently shown in the Columbus Blue Jackets series and Game 1 against the Pens. But after scoring 21 goals in five wins in the playoffs, the Capitals have proven they can get goals, and other significant contributions, from anywhere in the lineup.
