Roy Hodgson looking for right combination in England attack
Hart takes heart from England’s performances so far.
I understand the negativity to a point, because we failed to beat Slovakia or Russian Federation while only just beating Wales in the last minute, but I disagree with the accusation that England showed less passion than Wales.
“Obviously we’ve had some awesome nights over the last few years [with Wales] but that was really incredible and to top the group as well was an even better feeling, and one that we want to keep having.”Wales had found themselves in a precarious position in the group after losing 1-2 to England in their last game”.
Hodgson is out of contract at the end of Euro 2016 and, although the 68-year-old is understood to be keen to remain in charge until the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation, no talks have yet taken place over a new deal.
Bale and manager Chris Coleman said the side appearing at their first European Championship finals could not have hoped for a better Euro.
“I think one of these days we’re going to make it very uncomfortable for someone because these chances will go in and we won’t find goalkeepers and defenders in such splendid defensive form”. “That’s our future now, that’s our destiny”. We’ve finished second now and we have to deal with that and move forward.
“Confidence is high after a great performance and victory against Russian Federation”.
“We have a 23-man squad and you could pick anyone”, said the England shot-stopper. To go further in the competition we will have to beat very good teams.
This suggests their last 16 knock-out match in Nice against the runner-up from Group F (either Portugal, Iceland, Austria or Hungary) could go all the way.
Gareth Bale said that qualification for the knockout stage of Euro 2016 with Wales sits alongside anything he has achieved with Real Madrid.
“We are going to look to build on three good performances”.
“Like I said before it’s like having your family at the game. The ultimate goal is we want to try and win the tournament”. There’s going to be loads of football to watch, loads of exciting times to watch.
I think this tournament is wide open, which is a big positive for England, but at the moment we should only be thinking about how we will get through the last 16.
“We practise every day”.
“I look at the way the team played and I don’t honestly believe any players I could have put out there would have done a lot different to the ones that actually played from the start or came on in the game”.
The final minutes saw England throwing numbers forward as they tried to force a late victor but they could find no way through and may now have to contend with more daunting opposition in the round of 16.
“The way we are playing I’m not frightened of anybody”, Hodgson told British TV.
“That could also be a headache we have to deal with because all of them have shown a lot of qualities in the games but none of them, as yet, have really shown they are able to score the goals we need, ” Hodgson said.
“We’d love to have been stood here 2-0 and looking like an even better decision, but it is what it is”. We feel can we can change our game plan to suit whoever we are playing.
