Royals avoid arbitration with Dyson, Coleman, Cruz deals
The proposed $17.5 million two-year deal would be considerably more than the $6.42 mid-point between the KC Royals and Cain’s filing. His allegiance was never questioned and he is Forever Royal after agreeing to the one-year contract.
Cain has established himself as one of the game’s premier outfielders over the past two seasons, showing elite defensive skills while getting it done at the plate with back-to-back seasons batting over.300.
Drew Butera got a $1,162,500 contract that includes $12,000 in performance bonuses and $50,000 for an All-Star selection. He was acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals this off-season and made $775,000 previous year.
Salary arbitration figures were exchanged on Friday.
Still, Cain remains an important player in terms of the Royals’ success in the immediate future and he’s going to earn himself a nice contract if he continues on his current path. But considering his status as one of the franchise’s young cornerstones, the slick-fielding Moustakas is likely to get a significant raise. He hit. 307 with a. 361 on base percentage, a. 477 slugging percentage, 34 doubles, six triples, 28 stolen bases, 16 home runs and 72 RBIs in 140 games. In addition to starting in his first All-Star Game, Cain also finished 3rd in the MVP voting.
