Royals closer Wade Davis returns to Kansas City for MRI
To take Davis’ place on the roster, the Royals recalled left-handed pitcher Matt Strahm from Northwest Arkansas.
The right-hander underwent an MRI exam earlier Sunday, and a Grade 1 strain was discovered.
Davis was placed on the disabled list on Jul. 5 with forearm problems, but returned to the Royals two weeks ago.
Kansas City Royals relief pitcher Wade Davis (17) is congratulated by catcher Salvador Perez, right, following a baseball game against the Los Angeles Angels at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., Wednesday, July 27, 2016.
He looked fine after making his return July 16, as he didn’t allow a run and gave up just two hits in four appearances while picking up two saves.
“He’s just kind of suffering the same symptoms he had before, kind of tightness up here in his forearm”, Yost said.
“Hopefully, he’ll be back around the end of the 15 days”, Yost said.
“But he felt it playing catch on Friday”.
Davis, 30, has seen his name pop up frequently in trade rumors over the past week as the Royals have reportedly begun to consider selling veteran pieces prior to Monday’s non-waiver trade deadline. Strahm has made 22 appearances and 18 starts for the Naturals this season.
