Royals Rally, Beat Astros 5-4 to Even
“I feel like we’ve been having good at-bats the last few days, a lot of guys smoking balls right at ’em”. “It’s staying loose and going out there and wanting to win”.
Starter Collin McHugh and four relievers combined on a six-hitter in the Houston Astros’ 5-2 victory here over the Kansas City Royals in Game 1 of their American League Division Series. Volquez tossed two scoreless innings of relief in Kansas City’s regular-season finale in Minnesota to tune up for the playoffs.
With the Astros hosting their first playoff game in 10 years, the team has several pregame festivities planned Sunday. So where can you find free online streaming and what is the game time and TV schedule? Kazmir went 4.1 innings, surrendering six runs (two unearned), striking out three and walking two in a 7-6 win over the Mariners in his last outing. The Astros can change the game with one swing of the bat, leading the league with 234 home runs.
“You look at Keuchel’s numbers at home, they’re really impressive”, Royals Manager Ned Yost said. Perez then surrendered a single and a walk to load the bases and left the game in favor of Josh Fields, having not retired one man.
Yordano Ventura (0-1) yielded three runs on four hits and a walk in two innings for Kansas City, but did not come back following the delay.
Royals relievers Kelvin Herrera, Ryan Madson and Wade Davis shut down the Astros in the final three innings.
He struck out just a single batter so while he was able to limit the damage a bit, it was not his best work.
Nor when Hinch pulled his outfielders in to start the seventh, and Alcides Escobar lofted a triple off Will Harris (0-1) over their heads.
The plan continued after that. The veteran finished the regular season with a 13-9 record and a 3.55 ERA with 155 strikeouts.
From that point, the Astros’ hope was fleeting.
The Rangers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning.
On the Astros side, Colin McHugh gave his team what they needed, nothing less and nothing more.
And certainly not when Hinch pinch ran with Carlos Gomez in the ninth, and the speedster wandered too far off first base. And before Davis delivered his next pitch, Gomez was picked off first base after a review overturned the original safe call.
The win was a crucial victory for Kansas City, which risked traveling to Houston to face the Astros’ ace starting pitcher while staring at elimination.
During last year’s postseason, the Royals found themselves underdogs through the entire month. Maybe the pressure is different this time. “That wasn’t even his best tonight, and he got through a pretty good lineup and battled”.
