Royals-White Sox Runs
The runs were the first the Royals scored in 17 innings during a three-game stretch that included Kansas City being shut out 1-0 in 11 innings by the Chicago Cubs on Monday night.
The loss dropped the AL Central champions one game behind East-leading Toronto in the race for home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. But Quintana’s teammates couldn’t help get him there.
“It”s a mystery,” Yost said, adding, “There”s just a chemistry of a lineup that numbers can”t define. It’s hard to imagine fans of a franchise such as the Royals could complain about a 90-win season that brought a division championship back to Kansas City for the first time in 30 years, but this month they have. The White Sox have scored eight runs in their last three games and three or less runs in seven of their last 10 games.
Royals starter Edinson Volquez went six innings, holding the White Sox to one run and nine hits.
Hayes described how Hayes suffered the injury, saying he “maybe went 30 feet down the line” after hitting a grounder in his final at-bat of the evening.
“As a professional, you’re meant to go out and find that as quick as possible, and a lot of times that’s out on the mound mid-game”, he said.
Gordon led off the third with his 13th home run over the fence in deep left-center field. Eric Hosmer’s two-run homer off David Robertson in the 10th lifted the Royals to the victory.
The Royals entered the bottom of the 8th with the A’s winning 7-3. Paulo Orlando also can play the position.
The White Sox held a 3-0 lead after five innings, scoring on Abreu’s single in the third and getting two more in the fifth on Eaton’s 14th homer of the season.

The 29-year-old Cain has been one of the Royals most indispensable players this season. Westport-based Normal Human has captured the moment perfectly on a gray-and-blue tee that depicts an anonymous player with a water bucket on his head and the words “Kansas City 2015”. Up next came Kendrys Morales, who reached for an outside splitter and blasted it over the left-center-field wall. “It’s probably putting something on him, seeing what he can do with it”, Chicago manager Robin Ventura said.
“It was a big hit, a big win for us”, Hosmer said.
