Royalties Meet at Brooklyn Nets Game
The momentous meeting of the “British royalty” and the “Rap royalty” happened at the Barclays Center, during the Cleveland Cavaliers game against the Brooklyn Nets.
Prince William and Kate Middleton who are on their maiden visit to New York City seem to be making the most of it. From attending fundraiser dinner to meeting President Obama and witnessing an NBA game, they added an exciting twist to their NYC wish list – meeting Beyoncé and Jay Z. Reports suggest that Prince William is a Jay Z fan.
Both the royals had courtside seats, but they were sitting across from each other. Jay and Bey walked across the court to greet The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge during the time out (between the third and fourth quarter). The magical moment was witnessed and captured by the crowd who cheered endlessly. Jay Z wished the royal couple ‘Merry Christmas’.
Kate Middleton, pregnant with her second child, and Prince William received a standing ovation by fans when they entered the venue, and their faces were flashed on the Jumbotron during the game. William and Kate met NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and former player Dikemba Motumbo just before the basketball game to mark the beginning of new community partnership between the Royal Foundation and the NBA. Although, Jay Z’s Nets ultimately lost the game to LeBron James and the Cavaliers the epic meeting of the two power couples made it win-win for all.
LeBron “King James” presented the royal couple with personalized Cavaliers jerseys, including one for the couple’s 1-year-old son Prince George. However, oblivious of the royal protocol, James slung an arm over the Duchess for a photo. Touching the royals other than shaking hands is considered a breach of royal protocol but Prince William and his wife Kate took the incident sportingly.
Looking forward to a play date between Prince George and Blue Ivy!
