RU’s band gets top score at competition
The Harrison Marching Invitational is slated for Saturday.
The Valencia High School Marching Band will host a night of music and pageantry Thursday, November 12, at Valencia’s Paul Priesz Stadium. Peach State is the oldest continuously running marching band festival in Georgia.
Bands came from as far away as Merced, San Rafael and Firebaugh in the Central Valley to show off their musical skills and compete for bragging rights.
According to Cumberland Valley High School Band Director David Porter, a marching band’s success hinges on a proper attitude for working with others and budgeting focus; band directors strive to bring in students interested in balancing individual development with collaborative values.
The activities will begin at 10:00 A.M. with the presentation of the colors by the Rome High School Air Force ROTC Honor Guard and the national anthem. More than 200 spectators lined Second Street near the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk to watch with a grandstand announcer who called out the name of each band as well as the band leaders.
The band finished its competition season Tuesday, October 13 at the Region 4 UIL Marching Contest earning Superior (1st Division) from all three judges.
“The Jacksonville State University” Marching Southerners” will highlight the activities when they perform at10:00 P.M. Each band took a lap around the length of the field following their performance.
Performances run from 5 p.m.to 9 p.m. Admission is $10.
The Lancer Band will perform their 2015 field show titled “I 2 Eye”. You will see a few of the finest bands in the Southeastern United States in action.
