Rubio on Trump water prank: ‘I drink water. So what?’
The former host of The Apprentice and the US senator from Florida have been going back and forth for weeks, and the case of 24 bottles of “Trump Ice Natural Spring Water”, reported first by CNN, is perhaps the most good-natured of the barbs traded between the two. Trump has spent time on the stump and in television interviews attacking Rubio for drinking too much water and, he says, sweating. “Rubio, in turn, has accused Trump of ring-leading a “‘freak show’ on the 2016 campaign trail”.
A Trump campaign aide said they added the towels due to Rubio sweating, and called the gesture a lighthearted prank.
The Rubio campaign has yet to respond to the gift.
“Apparently the water is very high quality water, it’s top notch water”, he said.
During the second GOP debate in September, held in drought-stricken California, Rubio poked fun at himself, telling Californians not to worry, because he brought his own water.
Rubio has always been ridiculed for his water drinking, starting when he delivered the GOP response to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union speech in 2013. Trump is still the leader but his numbers may be slipping, even worse he may have topped out.
Rubio expressed exasperation over the billionaire’s antics, but has stated he does not believe in using debates to engage in direct barbs with his GOP rivals, including Trump. “And [he’s a] young guy – although he sweats more than any young person I’ve ever seen in my life”, Trump said last month. “Yeah, I drink water”. I never saw anything like this with him with the water. What appears to have been the tipping point for the real estate mogul is when Rubio said Trump hasn’t talked seriously about national security, which makes his qualifications for president questionable.
