Rubio releases GOP charge card statements from 2005-06
Mr. Rubio’s use of the Republican Party charge card first surfaced during his 2010 Senate race. “I mean, he is a disaster with his credit cards”, Trump said during a news conference at Trump Tower in NY. “And I’ll tell you what: I love Florida”.
Are we to believe this pattern of mistakes just happen over and over?
Rubio had a Republican Party of Florida American Express for approximately four years, January 2005 to December 2008.
The WBUR poll was conducted following last week’s Republican debate. Whereas, when it came to light that Bernie Sanders and his wife racked up tens of thousands in personal expenses on personal credit cards, well, Bernie is just emblematic of the common man. Rubio maintains that he never used the card for personal use, and that any personal charges he made he paid American Express directly for.
“If there was a policy, no one knew it, not the party spokesperson, not Marco, not former Speaker Dean Cannon who also put personal charges on his card, not anyone else”, Harris wrote.
The statements show Rubio bought 484 items for a total $64,778, including eight personal charges totaling $7,244.
Rubio’s finances also played out during his 2010 campaign for the U.S. Senate, when critics questioned details of his home mortgage payments and a liquidated retirement account.
“You’ll see them when they come out, we have been preparing that for a while”. Rubio blamed an accounting error.
Among the charges on card, according to the statements are nine purchases from florists for a total of $709 over the two years and food and hotel charges, including nearly $1,800 for food or stays at Walt Disney World properties. It was virtually the same explanation he’s giving today.
“Any personal charges were paid by me directly.
And it is not an (Republican Party of Florida) card, it is my card opened under the corporate division of AMEX using my personal credit”, Rubio said.
The senator announced that he would be releasing his records from the credit cards soon and likely within the next few weeks. But with Bush sliding in the polls and questions about his long-term viability as a candidate, Rubio loyalists say that a conversion is taking place in this fundraising Mecca.
I said early on that Rubio was in a first tier of contenders with Jeb Bush and, before he dropped out, Scott Walker. It was American Express. Last week, the billionaire businessman told reporters that Rubio “is a disaster with his credit cards”.
It was a very good response in the context of one debate, but ultimately useless, because Rubio’s answer will not stop the media from writing and talking about these facts, and pontificating about whether Rubio’s money problems “matter”.
Like with much of the “dirt” that’s been dug up on Rubio, the credit debt sort of makes him look like your average, everyday American, though according to the media, it’s de facto evidence that he’s not fiscally responsible.
Following his campaign event on Wednesday in New Hampshire Rubio was asked why he characterized his person finances as attacks by Democrats when he did admit to accounting errors in his memoir.
Rubio dismissed the charges as old news and said he did nothing wrong. “It was an attack leveled against me by Charlie Christ and it’s an attack that’s been debunked”.
