Rubio’s low-budget campaign looks to ramp up as voting nears
“I don’t know why we have stigmatized vocational education”, he said. Paul criticized Rubio on the grounds that he was proposing a trillion-dollar “welfare” expenditure; Rubio countered by saying that it wasn’t welfare, since everybody pays taxes, and that if we grant tax deductions for pieces of capital equipment, we should give at least as good tax treatment to the true engines of future economic growth-the nation’s children.
Finally, given the philosopher-king in the White House, it’s quite possible Rubio was emphasizing that empty philosophizing may make someone a decent community organizer or phony “constitutional law professor”, but it didn’t transform a particular man with precious little real world experience into an effective leader. Shortly afterward, Google searches for “welding classes” skyrocketed to 1,300 percent their normal amount. According to PayScale.com, annual wages for people with B.A.s in philosophy range from $37,000 to $83,000. “Philosophy and Religion Teachers, postsecondary” earn, on average, $71,350 (and presumably many are college professors with graduate degrees and the associated time-commitment and/or debt). The senator emphasized that his plan to create an eventual path to legal status is “very long”, and it would direct more immigrants toward temporary work permits, which Rubio claimed that most immigrants want anyway.
“I hate to say it, but we have to leave it the way it is”. It’s not exactly welding-but it’s a high-paying job in a technical field, which seemed to be what Rubio was getting at.
While Rubio’s advisers say they’re simply executing the next phase in a carefully crafted campaign blueprint, there’s no doubt the team’s early penny-pinching was driven in part by necessity. And there’s a shortage of people.
KILMEADE: Plato would have been so much more successful if he had just welded and stopped yapping about his philosophy.
Jeb Bush argued Wednesday that he’d be a “better bet” than Marco Rubio in a general election matchup against Hillary Clinton, but he appeared to be at odds with his own super PAC over a potential attack strategy against the Florida senator.
RUBIO: Well, if you can find a philosopher that can weld, that’s pretty good.
The Daily Caller: Rubio “Matched Substance With Soaring Rhetoric”.
Rubio’s policies on illegal immigration have come under fire repeatedly in recent days, including in Tuesday night’s GOP debate in Wisconsin.
Marco Rubio speaks during Republican presidential debate at Milwaukee Theatre, Tuesday, November 10, 2015, in Milwaukee.
Like he always does, he matched substance with soaring rhetoric.
“That’s what we need to be thinking about”.
Rubio said he’d let high school students use federal Pell grants ─ normally reserved to help pay for college ─ to cover trade school costs. If we do this, we will be able to increase wages for millions of Americans. But philosophy matters too-and oftentimes, ideas (and their consequences) get tossed by the wayside all too often in American political debate.
Rubio is correct that the US will need more welders in the coming years, but it may not be the best example.
