Rubio stands by calling Trump a ‘con artist’
Asked if he’d accept the position of secretary of state – Clinton’s former job – Rubio said no.
“The unfortunate truth about this election is that nobody’s really happy – I shouldn’t say nobody – most Americans are not really happy with either outcome, either the Republican or Democrat outcome”.
He added: “And if she were to win by too large a margin it would be very, very hard for us to be able to maintain the principles to keep America the nation that it is”.
“Marco Rubio called Donald Trump a “con man” who couldn’t be trusted with our country’s nuclear codes, but now that his own political ambition is on the line, he wants to make that “con man” our next commander-in-chief”, said Murphy campaign manager Josh Wolf.
That sum – coupled with the $2.2 million he raised between June 22 and June 30 – brought the first-term Republican’s cash haul to $5.5 million since he launched his re-election bid after initially declining to do so to pursue his presidential ambitions. If Marco Rubio’s come back into the race and holds the seat for Republicans and they retain control of the senate, he’ll probably be rewarded for getting back in, and that may be a benefit for Floridians. “The easier thing for me to have done – in fact, what I was thinking about, is running again in four to eight years – is just to step out of politics, stay engaged and involved and run again”. Rubio has hardly acknowledged the existence of Beruff’s campaign and didn’t mention him once Monday.
Rubio, the Florida senator seeking another six-year term this year, was at one time touted as the “Republican Savior”, but he underperformed during the primary and eventually dropped out in March. Trump gave Rubio a shout-out at a Sunrise, Fla., rally last week, referring to him as “Marco, who we are totally supporting, and who is totally supporting us”.
In Florida, a Monmouth University conducted this month found Clinton leading Trump by nine percentage points.
The poll pointed to Trump’s recent series of stumbles and falling poll numbers impacting down-ballot races. “The Senate is not a subsidiary position to the presidency”.
Scheduling is still being worked out, but the two plan to begin campaigning together in the battleground state of Florida in the next few weeks, said the aide.
