Rudy Giuliani claims Islamic terrorism started under Obama, apparently forgets 9/11
Clearly, the possibly senile Giuliani conveniently forgot that the September 11, 2001 attacks occurred when George W. Bush was in office.
Instead, he said Islamic terrorists began targeting the United States on President Obama’s watch.
If Giuliani is guilty of anything for his “eight years” comment, it’s of being imprecise and glossing over 9/11 while making the case that terrorist attacks have increased under Obama.
Trump spokesman Jason Miller said Giuliani was referring to the period of time following the 9/11 terror attacks, and before Obama was sworn into office.
Giuliani’s comments were meant to offer praise to Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, Trump’s vice presidential running mate, for his work in Congress after 9/11.
“She has destroyed more emails than I’ve ever written”, he said.
So heavily did Giuliani’s campaign lean on his 9/11 credentials that during the presidential debate, then-Senator Joe Biden quipped, “Rudy Giuliani”. We don’t want this war; they do.
The Republican politician – who was mayor of NY from 1994 to 2001, including the day when two planes crashed into the Twin Towers and killed more than 3,000 – was heavily criticized on social media for his comment, which seemed as if he momentarily forgot about the largest terrorist attack on USA soil. And they didn’t start it even in 2001.
Giuliani added, “We had no domestic attacks under Bush”.
But his latest iteration of that mistake came just weeks after he appeared on national television with a massive bump on his head.
“The World Trade Center came down during your brother’s reign, remember that”, Trump said. “If Donald Trump was going to say something like that, he’d say something like that”.
For his part, Bush himself repeatedly argued that his administration “kept America safe” in the years after 9/11, in part by bringing “freedom” to millions of Afghans and Iraqis.
In 2010 he said the United States saw “no domestic attacks under Bush”.
