Rugby league player charged over domestic violence
The charges against Jennings of hindering police and offensive behaviour received a brief mention in Parramatta Local Court on Monday and don’t return to court again until September 14, the second week of the NRL finals series.
Kenny-Dowall, 28, was charged at the weekend with 10 offences including six of common assault, one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and damaging property. “Any player or any official who is found guilty of these sort of offences then the game has been unambiguous and very strong in the last two years and we will continue to be that way but that is not to say in any way that you pre-judge these cases”.
Kenny-Dowall is the ex-partner of Jessica Peris, the daughter of Australian Olympian turned federal politician Nova Peris.
However, the league spokesman said via Sydney Morning Herald that NRL will monitor Kenny-Dowall’s case and will take ample measures when the full facts about the situation are clear, adding that there is “no place” for domestic violence in the league.
Kenny-Dowall is set to front Waverley Local Court on Thursday after being charged with a number of domestic violence allegations on Saturday.
Roosters star Shaun Kenny-Dowall has been charged after his former partner filed an AVO against him.
“We understand he will plead not guilty, ‘ Canavan said after the Roosters” win.
“We have a strong foundation at our club to support people during hard times”.
“He is struggling. It is a very serious matter”. Roosters released a statement on Friday night saying that the team was aware of the allegations concerning their rugby player, but will now make no further comments about the issue “as it is a police matter”. He wasn’t in a position to train with the team yesterday.
“Not playing him today was a welfare decision from the club”, he said.
Roosters chief executive Brian Canavan said he expected Kenny-Dowall to defend himself against the charges. “But my stance is unambiguous on domestic violence, and anything to do with violence against women or violence in general we are unambiguous”.
Kenny-Dowall sat out the Roosters win over the Warriors.
“The Sydney Roosters wish to advise that following consultation with the club’s coaching and welfare staff, it has been decided together with Shaun Kenny-Dowall, that he will not be playing this afternoon”, the statement read.
