Rumor: Christopher McQuarrie Polished Rogue One Script
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now the center of attention with the premiere of its new trailer on Monday Night Football.
Impossible Rogue Nation director Christopher McQuarrie was recently brought in to do a two-week pass on the Rogue One script. Theres no word about when in the process McQuarrie might have tackled the screenplay, but with his busy schedule as of late, doing promotion on a major movie and getting it ready for release, it could have been tricky to fit in. The movie is being directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) and filming reportedly began in early August.
Latino-Review says that sources informed them McQuarrie worked on the Rogue One screenplay for two weeks.
While it’s quite unlikely that the writer overhauled the entire script in such a short time, we can assume that the studio got the talented writer in to just polish the script a bit.
Rogue One will tell the tale about how the Rebel Alliance stole plans for the first Death Star. Still, this is only good news. He’s proved in the past that he’s capable of crafting action-filled blockbuster plots that don’t skimp on character or intelligence. That period seems to suggest that he was hired to do a few minor tightening, rather than a massive reworking or page one rewrite. Rogue One will be the first in a series of on-screen adventures exploring stories outside the core Star Wars saga. The Theory of Everything’s Felicity Jones leads a cast that includes Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk (using motion capture), and Riz Ahmed.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was originally scripted by Gary Whitta, who was revealed have completed the project in January 2015 and would be stepping down. It will follow Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, which premieres on December. 18, 2015.
