Rumor: Disney to Re-release Theatrical Cuts of Original Trilogy
When asked whether he’d ever consider going back to any of his old films and using fresh technology on the effects in them, he said that “first of all, they wouldn’t let me”. This time, however, the rumor comes from a semi reliable (?) source.
Oscar victor Lupita Nyong’o has graced her second cover of Vogue magazine, and in the midst of looking gorgeous in couture gowns, the actress also spilled some scoop about what it was like filming “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.
For now, our chances of seeing the theatrical cuts of the original Star Wars trilogy appear to be more optimistic than ever. Renowned director – and father of Max – John Landis visited Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, on Friday and took part in a Q&A to kick off Halloween Horror Nights.
J.J. Abrams “freaks out” when he sees iconic Star Wars characters on the set of Episode VII.
And John – who plays Finn in the upcoming film – believes the director has done the well-loved franchise justice with his new movie. My personal opinion is George hurt his movies by doing what he did. However, George said to me, “but they’re my movies”. “So, you know Disney, they’re like money on the floor”. It has been a further thorn in the side of fans that Lucas has long refused to re-issue the original theatrical cuts, only half-heartedly including them in non-anamorphic form in a 2008 box set of the trilogy, sourced from the 1993 LaserDisc release (the quality was far from ideal).
Did you know Disney, by the way, is putting out the original Star Wars the way it was? Fox, meanwhile, is reissuing the current versions of all six movies on Blu-ray (in new steelbook packaging) this November to tie into December’s release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. And fans have been clamoring for an HD cut of these versions of the movies since they were released on DVD years ago for a limited time and never again.
