Rumour: Capaldi Leaving After Series 10
But reports are now suggesting that Peter Capaldi will exit the show at the same time, with a source close to the BBC allegedly saying that Chibnall will be bringing in his own actor to play the Time Lord.
Peter Capaldi is leaving Doctor Who to give the series a “fresh start”.
Matt Smith has reacted to the departure of Steven Moffat as the creative force behind Doctor Who.
Bookies are predicting that his replacement – the 13th Doctor – could be the first female to command the Tardis, with Spooks and Sherlock actress Lara Pulver and former Coronation Street star Suranne Jones tipped.
Until then Capaldi is signed on for Season 10 but, beyond that, a BBC spokesman said “We don’t discuss contracts”.
In a cruel twist of fate Moffat will be taking our Doctor from us as his predecessor did to him when he took over for former showrunner and head writer Russel T. Davies. Or do you believe he’ll stick around for the Chibnall Era?
Speaking about quitting as lead writer and executive producer of Doctor Who, Steven explained: “Feels odd to be talking about leaving when I’m just starting work on the scripts for season 10, but the fact is my timey-wimey is running out”.
“Good luck to Steve [Moffat] and Chris Chibnall”, related Barrowman during his appearance at last weekend’s Heroes and Villains Fan Fest.
Chibnall, who has written various episodes of Doctor Who and its spin-off Torchwood, will take over once he has finished writing the third and final season of Broadchurch. “And I will be thrown in a skip”, Moffat jovially said. According to BBC One Controller Charlotte Moore, “I have made a decision to schedule Steven’s big finale series in spring 2017 to bring the nation together for what will be a huge event on the channel. Just to make my life hard”. He said, “This could be my final year, it’s terrifying”.
Doctor Who has been an institution of British television for more than half a century now, but its only in the last decade or so that the show has hit the mainstream on the American side of the pond.
