Run game could end Packers’ slump
At 7-4, the Green Bay Packers’ season hasn’t ended.
The Bears players took that personally, and had a little extra fuel in them when they took the field against the Packers on Thanksgiving night.
“I think the offense has evolved a lot since that first week”, quarterback Jay Cutler said. “Offensively, we have to get better at doing that”. That was in the fourth quarter, and would prove to be a very important three points. However, given the team’s performance over the last five games, the time for reevaluation has arrived. “He took a couple of shots and played through it”, McCarthy said of Rodgers. (Thursday) was more of some combo coverage with some two-high safeties at times.
Although Chicago is 5-6, the Bears’ record is not a good indicator of how good they really are.
When the Bears weren’t sacking and intercepting Rodgers, they were keeping him in the pocket to limit the damage he always inflicts when he runs around. Four of those carries opened the Packers’ first second half possession. Doubt and uncertainty around the organization has casted on several individuals, including star-running back Eddie Lacy.
Still, Lacy has been less than flawless.
The defensive line rotation had Jarvis Jenkins leading the way with 49 snaps followed by Eddie Goldman (36), Mitch Unrein (27), Bruce Gaston (25) and Ziggy Hood (23) in his first playing time as a Bear. The Packers never led again.
Cutler threw for 200 yards and a score, and the Bears held off the Packers on fourth-and-goal from the 8 with 22 seconds left for a 17-13 victory.
With the stakes understood, the Bears continued to play a brand of fearless and energized football.
Quick hits: Martellus Bennett missed his first game since Week 14 of the 2011 season. At the end of the team’s minicamp, coach Mike McCarthy called Adams the “MVP or an all-star” of the offseason. Perhaps persuaded by the debacle in the NFC title game last season, McCarthy finally made the move, handing over the play sheet to top assistant Tom Clements. He continues to make impact plays even in limited snaps, but Houston was well ahead of Sam Acho on the outside linebacker depth chart, as Acho played 15 snaps.
“On the touchdown, he was careless with the ball there, and on the fumble he was careless with his technique, the ball away from his body”. The ball is out way from his body, and that’s what happens. We have a ball security drill. Every fan had to wonder if that’s what Rodgers was thinking, but now they get to hear it. For running backs, there’s nothing worse than consistent fumbling. There is no way Adams presents a better option than Janis, and the Packers coaching staff would be foolish to see it other wise.
It was the first career forced fumble for Prosinski, who has played in 64 National Football League games with the Jaguars (2011-14), Eagles (2014) and Bears (2015), mostly on special teams.
The Green Bay Packers chose their home game with the Chicago Bears as the night they wanted to honor Brett Favre and retire his jersey- of all the games they could have chosen, why this one? Forte this week said he was able to cut and run at full speed at practice.
