Running back Adam Lane transferring from UF
Florida Gators running back Adam Lane, the MVP of the team’s Birmingham Bowl victory over East Carolina, has requested and been granted his release from the football program.
Lane was named Most Valuable Player in the Gators’ Birmingham Bowl game 28-20 win over ECU. In 2014, Lane averaged 4.9 yards per carry with six touchdowns, racking up 197 yards and two scores on 25 touchdowns in UF’s rivalry game against Georgia. “As you’ve heard me say many times, family comes first in this program and we will grant him his release and we will do everything we can do to help him”.
LSU’s annual matchup with Florida is scheduled for October 17 in Baton Rouge.
However Lane missed a number of spring practices with a quadriceps damage and located himself in a crowded backfield when preseason camp opened final Thursday. With a newly rededicated Kelvin Taylor as Florida’s presumed starter and talented freshmen Jordan Scarlett and Jordan Cronkite breathing down Lane’s back, any visions of being more than the Gators’ No. 2 runner were likely folly.
“I simply need to go on the market on a regular basis and compete and get a spot”, Lane stated final week on the workforce’s media day. “When you have everybody competing that’s when you get great things”.
According to The Orlando Sentinel, UF head football coach Jim McElwain would not provide any specific details to Lane’s in publicly addressing the matter.
