Rupert Murdoch, Jerry Hall are engaged
Rupert, 84, and Jerry, 59, confirmed their engagement after a whirlwind four-month relationship.
The pair reportedly got engaged over the weekend, though the former model didn’t appear to be wearing an engagement ring when she was pictured at Sunday night’s Golden Globes ceremony in Los Angeles.
They began dating in the late summer after they were introduced by one of his sisters and a niece in Australia, according to The Times.
The pair were first spotted together in public at the Rugby World Cup final between Australia and New Zealand in October.
Hall, from Texas, was married to The Rolling Stones front man Mick Jagger for more than 20 years, although in divorce proceedings Jagger claimed that they were never legally married.
Media mogul Murdoch is a father of six children- Prudence (57) (from 1st marriage), Elisabeth (47), Lachlan (44), James (43) (from 2nd marriage), Grace (14) and Chloe Murdoch (12) (from 3rd marriage).
“They say love is blind”, sniped another Murdoch insider.
Fittingly, the couple announced their engagement in Murdoch’s British flagship publication The Times of London as part of the births, marriages and deaths column.
In addition to the Times, Murdoch’s News Corp newspapers embrace the Wall Street Journal, the New York Post and the Sun in Britain.
“His decision to marry Deng caused tension with his older children from a previous marriage”, the paper recalled.
“There is a family trust which controls 40% of the voting shares in the Murdoch empire… the question was what would happen with the daughters of Wendy Deng”, he said. Her new boyfriend is an Australian-American businessman, well known as a media giant and CEO of News Corporation, the second-largest media conglomerate in the world.
Last August, Jerry admitted she was keen to marry again.
