Russell Brand quits social media
Brand also said he would be taking time away from social media, adding: ‘I’m going to be learning because I know real change is coming and I want to be part of that’.
Brand shared the final episode of “The Trews” on his Twitter feed, and he also said his goodbye along with it. Brand has more than 1 million Youtube subscribers and 10.7 million Twitter followers.
The 40-year-old comedian announced he would be stepping away from Twitter, Facebook and his YouTube series “The Trews“, reported Daily Telegraph.
The British funnyman has been broadcasting episodes of “The Trews” on his YouTube.com channel since early 2014 and he regularly weighed in on issues such as politics, worldwide events and current affairs.
The decision seems to be partly motivated by the way the media has targeted him personally when they report back on what he’s been saying in his show.
He criticized the PM, saying his government “should stop carrying out foreign wars on behalf of corporations“, suggesting this would have “a lot more impact than just silence“.
“The Trews“, for activist Brand, had become a platform to launch vocal campaign for causes such as saving the New Era housing estate in East London.
Brand appeared to become further disillusioned with the show after he failed to sway public opinion towards his favored political party in the United Kingdom general election in May, and now he has confirmed he is giving up “The Trews” due to the “incredible condemnation” it has received.
Concluding his final show, which he said could possibly return in the future, Brand said “we’ll be ending on a bad pun. Trew to be continued”, he concludes.
