Russell Wilson catches a touchdown pass from Doug Baldwin
They trust that against anybody this time of the year.
Agholor’s awful play started a downward spiral in the Eagles’ play and gave the Seahawks the spark they needed.
On a day Philadelphia needed to be close to flawless to hang with the class of the NFC West, the Eagles made too many careless mistakes. “That’s the great part about where we are right now”.
Seahawks running back Thomas Rawls replaced injured starter C.J. Prosise in the second quarter and rushed for 57 yards on 14 carries as Seattle stormed out to a 26-7 lead early in the fourth quarter. Prosise two weeks earlier was a backup to Christine Michael and Thomas Rawls.
But otherwise, the Seattle defense didn’t allow much to come easy for the Eagles, whose receivers had just two catches for 15 yards in the first half.
“I think we’ve been trying to call that the past four or five years”, Wilson said. The Eagles are one of the most penalized teams in the league, averaging over 8 per game, and they had 8 against Seattle. Sometimes that can help clear your head. Now he sees things so well and he’s fitting in so well.
The Seahawks are 31-5 at home since 2012, when Wilson became the starting quarterback. That would require winning all their home games and splitting their final two road games, which will come in Cincinnati, where the Bengals just lost star receiver A.J. Green and running back Gio Bernard with injuries, and Baltimore. We wanted him the whole way, and John had it figured obviously perfectly for us to get it done.
“Neither one of the players got hit in the head”.
Wilson handed the ball to wide receiver Doug Baldwin, who then threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Wilson to give the Seahawks a 23-7 lead in the third quarter.
That’s what Wentz did. The touchdown to Jimmy [Graham], scrambling to his left, making that across his body throw.
“That’s just not what we’re built for”, Kelly said. “We have so many mistakes that keep hurting us. It wasn’t there and I should have just checked it down”. Safety (27) Malcolm Jenkins follows him signaling to Wilson man-to-man coverage by the defense.
Maybe, but we’ve seen it before with these Seahawks. “It’s not like he went out there that play and said ‘I’m going to take a touchdown away.’ We made a lot of mistakes tonight”. If his wideouts are covered, Wilson will take off and make smart decisions with his legs which could be an X factor in this game.
“It definitely comes down to trust”, Wilson said Thursday.
The Seahawks don’t beat themselves that way and they get more from less than any team in football. His comments on Monday along with the additon of Paul Turner to the 53-man roster may be a sign of the Eagles action plan for Agholor. “Now, he’s compared to every other first-round pick”.
Theirs is a culture of raising levels and keeping them there. If he can sniff out a play that has never happened and probably will never happen again, the Eagles can still win a Super Bowl this season with the defense under his guidance.
“It’s the basics of football”, Jenkins said. He lined up about yard behind the line of scrimmage on a third-down play, when he was supposed to be even with the ball. It’s in other games. Those are things that are self-inflicted. The rookie has gone two games without scoring a touchdown while coughing up two interceptions.
The Eagles just aren’t doing it enough.
