Russell Wilson, Seahawks agree to contract extension
Chancellor’s potential holdout is the latest bit of contract drama for the Seahawks, who have been in a highly publicized negotiation with quarterback Russell Wilson while also trying to work out an extension with middle linebacker Bobby Wagner.
The two camps wanted to have a new deal in place before training camp begins Friday, but according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapport, there’s some “pessimism” surrounding discussions.
La Canfora writes that the Seahawks are offering a “very strong deal” compared to what has been given out by the team in the past, but Wilson wants to be among the highest paid players in the league. The deal reportedly includes a $31 million signing bonus and $60 million in guarantees.
As the 26-year-old entered the final year of his rookie contract, Seattle and Wilson tried throughout the offseason to iron out a new deal, with guaranteed and upfront money the main hurdles.
Wilson confirmed the extension on Twitter.
Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor will not report to training camp on Friday and will hold out in hopes of a new deal, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Since Seattle drafted him in the third round of the 2012 draft, Wilson’s accumulated a 36-12 record in the regular season with 9,950 yards, 72 touchdowns to 10 interceptions, and a 98.6 passer rating. Former Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren appeared on NBC Sports Radio to discuss the offer and while he did not disclose the amount, he asserted his belief that Seattle had not lowballed Wilson and it was “a fair deal”.
