Russell Wilson: Seahawks held to five points in Week 12 loss
The victory, which came one week after a 19-17 win at Kansas City, was the third straight for the Bucs (6-5).
Frank Clark forced a hold in the end zone by Tampa Bay tight end Luke Stocker that resulted in a safety and made the score 14-2.
The season-high six sacks and two interceptions were just part of Russell Wilson’s long afternoon. Either way, it was the highest rate for any quarterback in Week 12. “He started moving and ducking and dodging and it was just hard on him, which has always happened before. We got to get back to work and fix it”.
“We were just in a funk”, mused linebacker K.J. Wright. It still had affected us. The running game was fine.
“It’s pretty evident that I do a lot of things in our offense”, Kearse said.
“I’m just disappointed we came out this way and played like that”. Since we were struggling with it, it didn’t turn out like we wanted it to.
Evans ended the day with 104 yards on eight catches.
If the Seahawks struggle again offensively against the Rams and Cardinals (two teams against whom they scored a combined nine points in their first meetings this season) or slip up at Lambeau Field in a couple of weeks, they could easily be playing on Wild Card Weekend and traveling the week after that. His 38.8 passer rating was the second-worst mark of his career.
“Any time he’s back there with me, especially when he’s healthy enough to go out there and run, it brings another weapon to the offense, which was very helpful”, running back Thomas Rawls said. “They rushed the heck out of us”. Chris Conte got banged up a little bit and Keith Tandy came in. Is it now (time) to run it or now (time) to throw it? “We’re really positive about what we can do”.
And ESPN’s Dan Graziano says the Seahawks need to concern themselves less with the team in front of them in the playoff standings. And this particular egg could have very real ramifications for the Seahawks in the playoffs.
Of getting sacked six times, Wilson and coach Pete Carroll both mentioned a previous issue: The quarterback needs to get rid of the ball more quickly.
Considering the Seahawks’ defense didn’t allow a point after the 14 they allowed in the first quarter, they may have been able to kick field goals until they won if it weren’t for turnovers. Hunt was flagged for an illegal chop block, a 15-yard penalty.
As cornerback Richard Sherman said, “anytime we score five points, it’s going to be hard to win”.
It was a concerning display for a team that is usually peaking at this time of year. “I thought I was having flashbacks to Bucs past teams”.
This season coaches have credited him for anchoring what until Sunday in Tampa was an improving line, and for being on point in his pre-snap reads and communicating calls to fellow linemen. They generally manhandled rookie guard Germain Ifedi and the tackles: Garry Gilliam, undrafted rookie George Fant (the hoops player) and Bradley Sowell. He really missed Prosise, who had provided the club with a dual threat as a runner and receiver who could line up anywhere and cause mismatches.
Verner described his dad as “the most caring, loving person that you [would] ever know” – one who “was willing to take his shirt off and give it to a person that he never knew”.
“I have to figure out if I can get the ball out quicker”, Wilson said. “We had that big fourth-down conversion, and it felt like, ‘OK, here it is, here’s the magic'”. You have a brother hurting. A 6-6 tie vs. Arizona looked much the same, at least on offense, and a setback the following week in New Orleans was far from an all-time great performance by the Seahawks. “So we learned some stuff”.
