“From the very first days, we declared as an opposition party in the country, that we do not support the position of worsening relations with Russian Federation”, said Demirtas, who heads the second-biggest opposition party in Turkey’s parliament.

It was not immediately clear which other Russian politicians he was meeting.
He also dismissed on Twitter criticism of the visit, pointing out that the government was “ignorant” as he also visited Moscow previous year. “I will apologize if they [the government] can state a single benefit for Turkey in the downing of the Russian jet”, he said later in the day as he spoke at a news conference in Istanbul upon his return from Russia.
HDP spokesperson Ayhan Bilgen also lambasted Davutoglu’s portrayal of the matter. We know how our President [Recep Tayyip Erdogan] strived to meet [Russian President Vladimir] Putin.
Moscow insists that its jet was downed while flying over Syria. The US, the newspaper wrote, sees its own profit in the “silent war”.
