Russia’s Putin arrives in Tehran
Putin and Khamenei met before the Russian leader spoke at a major summit of gas exporting countries hosted by Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani in the capital.

Ilya Tarasenko, new president of Sukhoi Civil Aircraft, said the company was in advanced talks to sell 100 Sukhoi regional passenger superjets to Iran.
Khamenei said the United States had a “long-term plan” to dominate Syria and the Middle East which would “disadvantage all countries, especially Iran and Russia”. “Any solution to Syrian crisis should have Syrian government and people’s consent”, he added. “This should be decided only by the Syrian people”.
Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived Monday in Tehran for talks with Iran about the devastating conflict in Syria where the two nations are allied in support of the Damascus regime.
An escalation in fighting in Syria, where Russian Federation has propped up President Bashar al-Assad against IS and Western-backed rebels, most recently with air strikes, has pulled it closer to Iran which is coordinating pro-Assad fighters on the ground.
Attention is now focused on stopping ISIL group extremists, who a year ago took control of large parts of Syria and surged into Iraq, from breaching Assad’s defences and taking Damascus.
“Unwillingness [by Washington] to accept Russia’s growing influence in the region and in the global arena affects all the United States decisions and actions concerning Syrian question”.
Moscow has shielded Syria from worldwide sanctions, and on September 30 it launched an air campaign against the Islamic State group and groups the Kremlin classifies as insurgents, while Tehran has sent military advisers to assist Assad.
