Russia’s Putin, Venezuela’s Maduro to discuss oil price stabilization

The growing equation between Russian Federation and China may be concerning for the United States, which has recently suffered cyberattacks allegedly backed by both the countries. From China’s activities in the South China Sea to the Islamic State’s continued advance in the Middle East, competition and conflict are threatening long-standing regional orders. Yet in the same period, China was happily pouring money into other countries – overall Chinese investment overseas was up more than 29%. And Chinese nationalists bring up the 19th century “unequal treaty” by which China ceded more territory to the Russian Empire than to any other power.
“Efforts by certain countries to glorify and exonerate war criminals and their henchmen are an outrageous flouting of the Nuremberg and Tokyo trials”, he said. It allows Beijing gradually to build the infrastructure it wants in Russia’s neighbourhood without provoking confrontation with Moscow. It is a relationship founded largely on Chinese dependence on Russian energy supplies, mutual support for “spheres of influence” as the conceptual foundation of an alternative world order, and joint naval exercises in the Black Sea. Zeman has urged an end to EU sanctions on Russian Federation and cultivated good relations with Beijing. And China has no quarrel with the EU; in fact, it is keen to strengthen economic and political ties with Europe – the ultimate destination of the Silk Road.
Russian Federation is in no position to create an alternative global system; but, if Putin continues to pursue an outdated and antagonistic foreign policy, it can undermine the existing one. The ceremony in Beijing will feature a large military parade where the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) could unveil a new missile known as a “carrier-killer”, which some defense experts say could challenge U.S. naval dominance in the Asia-Pacific.
