Russia sends more air defense missiles to Syria
The United States, in its turn, abandons efforts to work with Russian Federation on Syria.
In a major blow to hopes global cooperation could end the raging civil war in Syria, the U.S. State Department and their Russian counterparts ended efforts to collaborate on the military campaign against ISIS and al-Qaeda-linked rebel factions and negotiate a diplomatic solution to the conflict on Monday.
“Everybody’s patience with Russian Federation has run out”, White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters.
“The decision that has been taken by us is a signal to Washington”, Lavrov said in a statement.
“The Obama administration has done everything in its power to destroy the atmosphere of trust which could have encouraged cooperation”, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on the treaty’s suspension.
The United States will not abandon its pursuit of peace in Syria after suspending direct U.S.
There was no word on what America’s “Plan B” might be despite rumors of tougher United States sanctions and talk that Saudi Arabia and Qatar might step up arms shipments to anti-Assad rebels.
“Everybody’s patience with Russian Federation has run out”, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said in Washington, blaming Vladimir Putin’s government for undermining the fight against Islamic State and for indiscriminate bombing that has killed civilians and targeted hospitals in Syria. The measure would call on UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon to present options to the negotiating parties within five days of the resolution’s adoption to set up a monitoring mechanism of the ceasefire, to be enforced by the 23 countries backing Syria’s peace process.
“To ensure the safety of our respective military personnel and enable the fight against Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, the USA will continue to utilise the channel of communications established with Russian Federation to de-conflict counterterrorism operations in Syria”, Kirby noted.
But Washington will recall all personnel who were sent to Geneva in order to set-up a joint control centre with Russian officers to plan coordinated strikes.
The ministry added that “the stakes are high”, and warned that the “White House will bear the blame if Syria come under new blows by terrorists”.
Zvezda, a nationwide TV service run by the country’s Ministry of Defence, said last week, ‘Schizophrenics from America are sharpening nuclear weapons for Moscow’.
Assad’s government, with Russian air support and Iranian ground forces, launched the assault on Aleppo last month, a week into a ceasefire agreed by Washington and Moscow.
The US and other Western countries say Moscow and Damascus are guilty of war crimes for deliberately targeting civilians, hospitals, and aid deliveries to crush the will of more than 275,000 people trapped under the siege of Aleppo.
“Washington simply did not fulfill the key condition of the agreement to improve the humanitarian condition around Aleppo”, she said. Officials said they were still assessing the strike and have not released the name of their target.
Fox News reported earlier quoting unnamed USA officials that the system had been deployed at the weekend. “It is not salvageable, per reports from the staff and doctors there”.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, who on Monday assumed the post of the President of the UN Security Council, expressed his concerns over the halt in Russia-US cooperation in Syria.
“The Syrian government and Russian Federation should immediately stop attacking civilian areas with incendiary weapons”, said Steve Goose, arms director at Human Rights Watch, in August.
