Russian Federation attacks Islamic State stronghold in Syria
The group’s claim has yet to be verified.
French President Francois Hollande will travel to Moscow and Washington next week to try to build up a coalition against Islamic State following Friday’s terrorist attacks in Paris that killed at least 129 people, France’s Prime Minister Manuel Valls said Tuesday.
Egypt is holding two employees of Sharm el-Sheikh Airport on suspicion of assisting those who planted the explosive device on the Russian Metrojet plane on October 31, two security officials said, as cited by Reuters.
Ordering Russia’s secret service to hunt down those responsible, Putin said the incident was one of the bloodiest acts in modern Russian history. “According to our experts, a self-made explosive device equivalent up to 1 kg of TNT was set off on board, which explains why the fragments of the aircraft were scattered over a large area”, Bortnikov briefed Putin. It had previously downplayed assertions that a terrorist act was responsible for the crash.
Putin said he expected military chiefs to present him with specific proposals on how Russian Federation could ramp up its campaign.
Putin vowed that Russian Federation will “find and punish the perpetrators”.
Russian Federation must know the names of all those involved in the crime, Putin said.
“We will search for them wherever they are hiding. We will find them in any part of the world and punish them”, he said.
He told the Foreign Ministry to appeal for worldwide help.
Egyptian authorities have detained two employees of Sharm al-Sheikh airport for questioning in connection with the downing of the Russian jet, two security officials and an airport employee said on Tuesday.
The plane was headed to St Petersburg, where most of the passengers were from. “They had inside intelligence giving them that information, so that’s not surprising to anybody in the airline industry, given that the British government took very strong action immediately”.
Posters of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi adorn a deserted tourist market in Sharm el-Sheikh.
“We can unequivocally say it was a terrorist act”, Mr. Bortnikov said, according to footage of the late-night Kremlin meeting, which was only released on Tuesday morning.
