Russian Federation gave U.S. advance notice of Syria strikes several times since Paris
Russian Federation has been conducting a bombing campaign in Syria since September 30, its largest foreign intervention outside the former Soviet Union since the occupation of Afghanistan in 1979.
Russian warplanes have flown 522 sorties and destroyed over 800 targets over the last four days, according to Shoigu.
Russian ground crew are inscribing the words “For Paris” on a few bombs destined to be dropped on targets in Syria, in a message of solidarity with the victims of last week’s Paris attacks.
Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said that more than 600 rebels had been eliminated as a result of cruise missile strikes at targets in Syrian Deir ez-Zour province.
Hours earlier, US President Barack Obama said during a trip to Manila that he cannot “foresee a situation in which we can end the civil war in Syria while Assad remains in power”.
Also on Wednesday, Gen Kartapolov said that, in recent days, Russian jets had destroyed about 500 tanker lorries out of the fleet of 1,000 that is smuggling oil out of Syria to fund Isis.
But President Vladimir Putin said the current level of attacks was not enough to defeat so-called Islamic State (IS).
“Under the Russian president’s decree, the General Staff is working out joint anti-terrorism operations with the French Navy”, says Colonel-General Andrey Kartapolov of Russia’s General Staff, according to state news outlet Tass.
Russian Federation has also given the United States advance notice in the past week of actions involving cruise missiles and long-range bombers that crossed Iranian and Iraqi airspace into Syria, the official said.
Russian Federation has drawn parallels between the terrorist attacks in Paris on November 13, and the ISIS-claimed bombing of that killed all 224 on board, which Russian Federation officially agreed was an ISIS terrorist attack on Tuesday, reported the Guardian.
