Russian Federation gifts France a replacement for slain police dog
When the gift was initially announced back in late November, she said the puppy was “named after a Russian knight, Dobrynya, a symbol of strength, kindness, valor and selfless help”.
Russian Federation has gifted France a new puppy to replace Diesel, the seven-year-old police dog who was killed during a raid linked to the Paris terror attacks.
The raid followed the 13 November attacks that left 130 people dead. Hostages were taken at the Bataclan concert hall where 1,500 people gathered for a rock concert and nearly simultaneously three suicide bombers blew themselves up next to the Stade de France stadium where a football match between French and German national teams was in the full swing.
Ripert echoed Zubov’s sentiment and described the gift as “a gesture that comes from the heart”, adding that “it shows the relations between Russian Federation and France quite well”.
In a tweet announcing Diesel’s death, Police National said the Belgian shepherd dog, or Malinois, was “killed by terrorists”.
Igor Zubov, a Russian deputy interior minister, presented the puppy to French ambassador Jean-Maurice Ripert at a ceremony in Moscow on Monday evening. “Paris is waiting for him”, according to TASS news agency. The dog’s death touched the French, who shared photos of their pets on social networks with the hashtag #JeSuisDiesel.
