Russian Federation has to end Air Strikes in Syria
The US and Russian Federation must not allow the conflict in Syria to develop into a full-blown proxy war, China’s ruling Communist Party said Tuesday, chiding both Moscow and Washington for having an outdated Cold War mindset.
“The recent Russian military attacks that go beyond Daesh (IS) and other UN-designated terrorist groups, as well as on the moderate opposition, are of deep concern and must cease immediately”, the EU’s 28 foreign ministers said in a statement.
Syrian government forces and their allies from the Lebanese Shi’ite militia Hezbollah, backed by Iranian military officers, have launched a massive ground offensive in coordination with the Russian air support.
The fighting was focused on the village of Kfar Nabudeh, which officials said had been seized by government troops.
Also on Monday, the Syrian regime army announced in a statement that its forces have gained new areas in the northern countryside of Hama, including the villages of Atshan, Qubeibat, Maarakaba, Oum Harten, Sekik, Tal Sekik, Tal al-Sakher, and al-Bahsa.
“The terrorists in the past days were desperately trying to transport ammunition, armaments, fuel and supplies from Raqqa to the front line”, the ministry said, in reference to the northern province controlled by the Islamic State group, adding that a “significant part” of their supplies have been destroyed by Russian airstrikes.
“Such “division of labor” would be absolutely logical”, Lavrov said during a joint press conference in Moscow with Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Secretary-General Lamberto Zannier. The United Nations’ special envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, stepped up efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the conflict, scheduling visits to Moscow and Washington.
Al-Jubeir also promised continued support to the moderate opposition.
“President Putin has a distinguished personality and charisma, and it has become clear that world leaders have gradually started approving, openly or secretly, of this intervention”. “In the next 12 to 18 months, we’re going to see an excellent example of what the Middle East looks like without the influence of American power”.
Max Fisher of Vox may be the only person in America who didn’t blush when President Barack Obama, in his 60 Minutes interview Sunday, tried to characterize Russian President Vladimir Putin’s military incursion into Syria, as a sign of weakness.
“We have bases and we have aircraft carriers”. One of those killed was believed to be Belgian, he said. “And we are now supporting Iraq as it tries to continue to build up its forces”.
Syrian army troops aided by Russian airstrikes fought their fiercest clashes with rebels in weeks on Monday, as US-led coalition forces parachuted ammunition to rebels battling Islamic State (IS) group fighters in the north of the country.
