Russian Federation rains missiles on Syria
Russian Federation has intensified its aerial and naval bombardment in Islamic State targets in Syria, with a series of videos showing the impact of the attacks.
A video posted online by the Defence Minister also shows a member of ground crew writing “For Ours” on a bomb at Russia’s Hmeymim airbase.
Putin has vowed to increase Russia’s military campaign again ISIS in Syria after it was confirmed that the Metrojet airliner that crashed in Sinai, killing all 224 passengers, was brought down by ISIS.
Russian forces have destroyed numerous oil facilities and tankers controlled by the Islamic State (IS) in Syria, sharply cutting its income, Russia’s defence minister said on Friday.
Russia has launched another salvo of missiles at Syrian targets from the Caspian Sea, the Russian Ministry of Defense has announced.
US officials said last month four missiles launched from Russian warships in the Caspian had crashed in Iran, though Moscow insisted they reached their targets in Syria.
While doubts remain about whether the USA would work with Russia, there have been some tentative signs of a shift in Washington, with President Obama praising Russian leader Vladimir Putin as a “constructive partner” in diplomatic efforts to end the Syrian war.
According to the ministry, the number of aircraft deployed in Syria has been doubled to 69 units and the campaign has been enhanced by strategic bombers taking off from Russian territory. The conflict between government forces and rebels, exacerbated by jihadist groups active in the region, has killed some 230,000 and forced over four million Syrians to flee the country, primarily to neighboring states and Europe. It said other airports would operate normally. Also on Tuesday, Putin spoke with France’s President Francois Hollande by phone to discuss how the two nations will fight the islamist threat they face.
“As Bashar al-Assad and Islamic State are equal priority enemies for them, they inflict damage to both of them by such hits”.
The monitor said in late October that US-led raids had killed 3,276 IS fighters, 147 members of Al-Nusra or Islamist groups and 226 civilians.
