After being found guilty of abusing its dominant market position in Russian Federation last month, Google is now being ordered to make a few changes. Their complaint is that Google can not have a rule requiring Google be the default (and only) search engine on devices that ship with the Play Store.
Technology experts see this ruling as a big win for Yandex. It wants those partners to be able to include apps that aren’t made by Google, rather than featuring its own apps and driving people toward those services. The company is integrating data from several apps and it aiming at making Google Now as the quick access platform for users to get data which matters. “Our position is strong and we intend to defend it in case of appeal at any level”.
The FAS anti-monopoly body said Google must correct its contracts with manufacturers after ruling in September that the software giant had broken the law by pre-installing certain applications on mobile devices. “This view is shared by a number of companies outside of Russian Federation”.
Google could still face an administrative penalty of up to 15 percent of its 2014 revenue from this part of the market.
