Russian Federation vetoes United Nations condemnation of Syria attack
Lavrov spoke Wednesday after several hours of talks with U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson that focused on tensions over Syria sparked by a chemical attack that killed more than 80.
China, which has also vetoed several resolutions in the past along with Russian Federation, abstained on this one, a move welcomed by President Donald Trump at a White House news conference.

However, Putin appears to have found time to meet with the former recipient of Russia’s Order of Friendship, who reportedly ditched his press pool to catch up with Putin.
“It was planned and executed by Syrian regime forces we are quite confident of that”.
However, the BBC’s Steve Rosenberg in Moscow says President Assad is Russia’s key military ally in the Middle East and Mr Tillerson may need to rethink his belief that he can weaken Moscow’s support for him.
Years of Russian Federation and its allies, Iran and Syria, operating with virtual impunity have come to a crashing halt – because the Trump administration refuses to sit meekly by. “They were there. So we’ll find out”, he said.
Trump also said he had “absolutely no doubt” he did the right thing in ordering the cruise missile strike in response to the chemical weapons attack.
While Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was still asserting that the people of Syria could somehow determine Assad’s fate rather than the global community, Haley said: “We don’t see a peaceful Syria with Assad in there”.
Tillerson’s meeting with Putin comes after an icy reception upon arriving in Moscow and a closed-door meeting with Lavrov.
Safronkov said Russia’s Foreign Minister asked U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson during talks earlier Wednesday in Moscow to jointly request the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons “to immediately put together an independent global mission” to visit Khan Sheikhoun and the air base that the U.S. attacked in retaliation.
Tillerson and Lavrov are meeting in Moscow amid rising tensions over Syria.
With the tension between Russian Federation and USA over the Syria civil war not looking to be resolved any time soon, people from all over are getting understandably anxious.
“We saw a veto from Russian Federation today because the reality is, there’s absolutely no question that Bashar al-Assad and his regime were responsible for the strikes”.
“Unfortunately, we’ve got some differences with regard to a majority of those issues”, Lavrov lamented. “Frankly, Putin is backing a person that’s truly an evil person”, Mr Trump told the Fox Business Network, referring to Mr Assad.
Tillerson insisting – Syrian leader Bashar Al- Assad’s days are numbered. “I think it’s very bad for mankind”. “How do you know that?” he said.
On last week’s chemical attack that hit the area of Khan Sheikhoun in Idlib, Tillerson said it was “conclusive” that Assad’s regime was behind it. Tillerson has a meeting set later Wednesday in Moscow with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Putin had even honored Tillerson a friendship award. It denounces “the reported use of chemical weapons in the [Syria], in particular the attack on Khan Shaykhun”.
