Russian girls deceive ISIL for $4500
Three Chechen girls are under investigation after scamming ISIS recruiters over social media by convincing them to send money on the pretence that they would use it to travel to Syria.
If ISIS spent more time deleting Nigerian prince e-mails and less time being the world’s worst people, they would have known they were being scammed by three Chechen women, who suckered the terrorist organization out of $3,300.
ISIS uses social media to recruit new members as well as brides.
But this week, Russian police busted three women who pulled off one of the most audacious – and unsafe – mail-order bride scams in the history of online fraud. According to Mediaite.com, the women pretended to be eager and willing to join up but didn’t have the travel money, and ISIS was willing to provide the funds.
Despite receiving the money (approximately £110) for a one-way ticket, she never showed up in Syria. The three reportedly clocked up ,300 from the ruse. All it takes is a little cash upfront. “Probably because no one has gone far enough in that direction”, Valery Zolotarev of the Chechen anti-extremism centre told tabloid Moskovsky Komsomolets.
‘Anyhow, I don’t advise anyone to communicate with risky criminals, especially for grabbing quick money.’.
Maryam risks a fine or up to six years in prison if convicted of fraud.
“A lot of people I know have gone, but it did not end well for any of them”, she said.
She said her first victim was a man from Syria who would slowly lead to the discussion of the Islamic State before eventually asking her to join them. Hundreds, perhaps thousands of Chechens are fighting in Syria, and though their numbers are comparably small, experts speculate the battle-hardened guerrilla tactics practiced by the Chechens have greatly boosted the so-called caliphate. After the wire-transfers came through, they’d block the recruiter they had been speaking with and disappear from the social media site they were communicating on.
