Russian missile shot down Malaysian flight: probe
According to its website http://www.onderzoeksraad.nl/, for the publication of the MH17 reports, the board has opted not to do so for each report individually, but instead to provide a single document covering all of the various investigations.
Safety Board director Tjibbe Joustra will present findings today, first to victims’ families, then to journalists at a military base in Gilze-Rijen, where parts of the plane have been brought from the crash site and reconstructed.
The Russian company that manufactures the Buk ground-to-air missile system plans to issue a report on the July 2014 downing of a Malaysian Airlines passenger jet over eastern Ukraine on October 13, the same day the Dutch Safety Board plans to issue the results of its investigation into the incident.
Kiev and the West have pointed fingers at the separatists, charging that they may have used a BUK surface-to-air missile supplied by Russian Federation to down the plane.
The spokesman also said that the investigators had ignored for unknown reasons a few facts about the crash provided by Moscow.
Countries whose citizens were killed, including the Netherlands, Malaysia and Australia, want to set up an global tribunal to prosecute any suspects.
At the same time Russia’s Defense Ministry made public satellite images of the area, taken several days prior to the crash. The question is why – and where it had gone?
Buk manufacturer Almaz-Antey has scheduled a separate press conference on Tuesday.
Almaz-Antey said it would “present the results of a full-scale experiment, a real simulation of an encounter between a BUK-type missile and a passenger plane”, and said the test would “help understand the real causes of the catastrophe”. On June 3, the Committee identified the key witness to the MH17 crash as Evgeny Agapov, an aviation armaments mechanic in the Ukrainian Air Force. Agapov implied that an air-to-air missile was missing and claimed he overheard Voloshin say to his colleagues that a few plane was “in the wrong place at the wrong time.” They want to know not only what caused the crash but who did it?
