Russians inscribe ‘For Paris’ on bombs destined for Syria
Video footage and a photo posted to the UK Russian Embassy’s Twitter show soldiers inscribing missiles destined for Syria with messages such as “For Paris” and “For Ours”.
It has previously targeted oil installations under the control of Islamic State and said it aimed to cut the group’s main revenue stream.
Flights operating out of Beirut airport will continue unaffected despite a notice of planned Russian naval drills in the Mediterranean, airport official Ibrahim Abu Alioun said Friday. These attacks have deprived ISIS of $1.5million (£990,000) in daily income from oil sales.
“The task of delivering Kalibr long-distance cruise missile strikes at Islamic State targets in Syria has been accomplished”, said Sergey Yekimov, a deputy commander of the Caspian Fleet. On Friday, Russian cruise missiles fired from the Caspian Sea passed over northern Iraq on the way to targets in Syria.
A U.S.-led coalition is also striking the Islamic State group in Syria, but is not co-ordinating its efforts with Assad or Russian Federation, beyond communicating with Moscow in order to prevent midair mishaps.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that Russian warplanes conducted air raids in the Idlib, Hama and Lattakia provinces on Friday.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on the country’s military to step up attacks on terrorist positions in Syria, after Moscow confirmed that a homemade bomb brought its civilian plane down over Egypt in a terror attack, claimed by Daesh terrorists.
The Russian strongman has ordered his military not to let up in their raids as ISIS continues to be degraded by a sustained aerial bombardment.
After the carnage in Paris which claimed the lives of 130 people Putin and French President Francois Hollande agreed to “ensure closer contact and coordination” in their countries’ operations in Syria.
Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said that more than 600 rebels had been eliminated as a result of cruise missile strikes at targets in Syrian Deir ez-Zour province.
It said dozens of oil tankers and other vehicles used for transporting crude-oil had been destroyed.
