Rutgers DL Darius Hamilton out for rest of season
The Kansas football team hits the road for its last non-conference matchup of 2015, as the Jayhawks take on Rutgers at High Point Solutions Stadium, Saturday, September 26.
It was the first homecoming win for the Knights since October 15, 2011, when they beat Navy, 21-20. Scoring-wise Rutgers has started slow, but gradually builds its production throughout four quarters.
“It wasn’t pretty”, said interim head coach Norries Wilson.
Hamilton emerged from the locker room in Happy Valley with a significant limp and things got no better leading up to Kansas. “And we started to believe that we have a shot”. We held them to seven points, but we have to eliminate big plays.
Hey, sometimes you’ve got to take the positives where you can find them.
Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg (14) is sacked by Rutgers defensive lineman Darius Hamilton (91)during …
The Scarlett Knight running backs lead by Josh Hicks and Robert Martin, gashed the Jayhawk run defense with a staggering 58 carries for 312 yards.
When he was asked how those totals felt, all Hicks repeated the number rhetorically and grinned. He added his 4-yard score on the opening series of the third quarter. Rutgers gained 43 yards on 32 carries.
Hicks had a 31-yard run to set up his 1-yard tally with 2:31 left in the half.
Then, in the third quarter, offensive coordinator Ben McDaniels kept running it right down Kansas’ throat.
“That’s not going to determine how we play in this football game”, Beaty said.
“I really thought they called intentional grounding”, Goodman said with a laugh. It’s sad to see these two in their current predicaments, but I have faith that in a few years with significant changes made, they will both be back in winning form, the following are my predictions.
“It’s overshadowing all the good things and people are going to get discouraged”, she said.
But Steve Longa and the Knights had other plans. Down 14-0, Kansas got on the board with a two-yard Ke’aun Kinner touchdown run.
Rutgers defense has stymied opposing offenses on third and fourth down attempts. We made mistakes, but the tempo was good.
Hamilton missed Rutgers’ first two games with what the school describes as a lower-body injury.
Anastasiou’s sister, Elena Anastasiou Rossi, gets fired up when talking about all the attention being given to the troubles with Rutgers football team.
Is Chris Laviano’s completion percentage TOO high? Cozart finished 13-18 for 193 yards at a very nice 10.7 yards a pass. He looked more accurate than he had all season, less willing to just bolt for it and run, keeping his eyes downfield for some big plays. Laviano’s legs did some of the work as well, scrambling eight times for 49 yards.
Wideout Carlton Agudosi hauled in his first career touchdown on 14-yard fade route in single man coverage, capping Rutgers’ 11-play, 91-yard drive that put the Knights up 7-0 late in the first quarter. Kansas, though, is hurt by the lack of a deep threat through the air as junior quarterback Montell Cozart (57.6 percent, TD, interception) hasn’t completed a pass of more than 40 yards.
And Laviano made the most of it. A botched extra point left the score at 13-0.
