Rutgers reinstates WR Leonte Carroo from suspension
Rutgers star football player Leonte Carroo is back on the team and is eligible to play Saturday night when the Scarlet Knights host Michigan State.
A Piscataway municipal court judge dismissed the charges when the woman said she didn’t want to testify against him. Carroo had been accused of slamming the woman-with whom he had been previously romantically involved-to the ground outside of the Hale Center on September 12, though prosecutors noted that without her cooperation, a conviction was unlikely, per Amaral.
According to a Wednesday afternoon release from the New Jersey school, “Flood reinstated Carroo after the student-athlete agreed to the conditions of his reinstatement and after he accepted the responsibility that comes with his return to the team”. That came hours after another judge lifted a temporary restraining order because the woman said she didn’t think it was necessary.
In an unrelated matter, Flood was suspended for three games and fined $50,000 for improperly contacting an instructor regarding a grade of one of the players.
Carroo had been placed on an indefinite suspension following the initial charge. The charge was dropped Tuesday when the alleged victim made a decision to not pursue the case.
Carroo earned first-team All-Big Ten honors last season and has seven receptions, three for touchdowns, in two games this season, He also was suspended for the first half of Rutgers’ opener for a curfew violation. Carroo caught 55 passes for 1,086 yards previous year for Rutgers.
Leonte Carroo has been on indefinite suspension.
