Ryan ‘Listening’ to Concerns as Obamacare Repeal Advances to Next Level
According to the report, more than one-third of African-Americans now get their health insurance through Medicaid and 1 in 10 of them would lose coverage under the GOP plan.
The CBO also projected the plan would cut the federal budget deficit by $337 billion over the next decade.
President Donald Trump met with some House conservatives, including members of the Republican Study Committee on Friday morning, and they agreed on an amendment package that would include giving states the option to block grant Medicaid rather than receive a per capita cap, and to maintain work requirements for certain Medicaid enrollees. That was instrumental in Colorado’s uninsured rate dropping by half by covering adults without children who make less than $16,000 a year. Now they have a plan.
And after 2020 there is no specific federal funding for expanded coverage. It is nearly inexplicable why Republicans – and Trump in particular – would back a plan that seems almost created to punish the voters who gave Trump his victory.
And, in a national survey, when asked about priorities for an ACA replacement plan, consumers overwhelmingly (67 percent) reported wanting the top priority to be lowering the cost of health care. Like the Senate moderates, John Kasich and company want to preserve the increased level of federal funding that Obamacare provides Medicaid recipients – and, if cutbacks are needed, to limit eligibility rather than reducing reimbursements. There were, in fact, several hundred counties that voted for Trump in which not a single person paid the tax, so literally nobody in those counties would benefit from the tax cut.
“Wait one year and then even the Democrats will come say, please, please, you got to help us”. “This is something that could have an impact that goes beyond Medicaid”. For those who have gained Medicaid eligibility through the expansion, loss of the enhanced match could curtail their prospects for keeping that coverage.
Given this picture, which seems largely favorable, what is it that people mean when they say that they want to replace the ACA?
But federal contributions for IL are not just low because Washington thinks it already has the money.
In Northern California, hospitals and doctors charge up to 40 percent more than they do in Southern California. “We have a population that’s growing in this state and we don’t have an appetite for increasing taxes, quite frankly”.
Trump said all the lawmakers in attendance now supported the healthcare bill after previously questioning it.
The Wausau Republican said the internal battle between Republican leadership and fiscal hawks needs to end and congressional opponents need to roll up their sleeves and do what’s right.
Californians are trying to understand how the new Republican healthcare bill introduced last week might affect them. It is a health insurance bill that will worsen health care.
