Ryan Moore finishes in dark, leads John Deere Classic
One of four former Buckeyes in the field at Scioto Country Club in suburban Columbus, the 58-year-old Sindelar had five birdies, including two in a row after a bogey on No. 5. He played almost two complete rounds on Saturday and shot 6-under 65 for each to get to 18-under heading to Sunday. “The worst thing to do is to be even or 1 over after five or six holes. Then all of a sudden you’ve got 10 guys thinking, ‘All right, I can go get this today”‘.
Moore carded a bogey-free four-under-par 67 to finish the tournament at 22 under in Silvis, Illinois. His maiden title came in the 2009 Wyndham Championship and he has followed up with the 2012 Justin Timberlake Open and two CIMB Classics.
“There’s a lot of casual water”, Gillis said during a break, “but I actually thought it was a little drier than what I was expecting”.
“I like how steady this was, with no bogeys on the weekend”.
The former US amateur champion started the day with a one-shot edge, which he extended to five before Martin created a bit of excitement with three consecutive birdies from the 12th to close the margin to a couple of strokes.
“Not many mistakes, and if I did get in trouble, I kind of got myself out of it”, Johnson said.
“It was a long day, Moore said. I really like the greens, they are some of the purest greens we play”.
THREE-MAN separation has been a feature of both golf tournaments this week, with Justin Rose, Henrik Stenson and Marcus Fraser putting some daylight between themselves and the rest in the Olympics, and Ryan Moore, Ben Martin and Morgan Hoffmann going clear in the John Deere.
However, Bryan is in position for his first top 10 finish on the PGA Tour as he now sits five shots back of leader Ryan Moore (-18). Ogilvy completed 12 holes, and Hoffman 14.
Rodgers birdied the final hole for a back-nine 31. He got it on the green and two-putted for par. I scrambled and made decent putts.
It was smoother sailing for Moore on Sunday, however, as he upped a one-stroke lead at the start of the final 18 to three shots on the front nine, thanks to birdies at Nos.
After starting the day at the top of the leaderboard at the John Deere Classic, Chapin’s Wesley Bryan fired a 1-under par 70 which due to other golfers going really low, has him now tied for fifth. He won his third Web.com Tour title of the season last week in Kansas to earn an immediate PGA Tour promotion. The former OR player won a PGA Tour Canada event two weeks ago in Edmonton, Alberta. He’s from nearby Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The 49-year-old Stricker, a former University of IL player from Wisconsin, won the event in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
