Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens More “Cartoonish” Than American Horror Story
“Scream Queens” two-hour premiere is set on September 22 on Fox Network. (He’s concurrently writing, producing and directing three – yes THREE – series!).
The Emmy-winning producer wrote the role of Hester for her and she took the job without knowing much more than the show would also star Jamie Lee Curtis and Emma Roberts. “Everybody right here is sporting a masks, and this present peels off these masks every week and it is sensible”.
Murphy admitted that the character of Roberts, the queen bee in the group, was inspired by a real life story of a former Delta Gamma sorority president and her email that went viral.
“When I found out that I was gonna be doing this show with her, it was absolutely unbelievable and she is cool as hell, I’ll tell you that”, Palmer said.
“I grew up watching every last one of the ‘Halloweens!’ My sister and I were obsessed with that”.
The show is co-created by Ryan Murphy, who is responsible for hits including Glee and American Horror Story, and he said he was determined to bring Curtis on board.
“It is a social satire and actually we say what people think”.
“Jamie Lee [Curtis] is the greatest matriarch of our family”. “I definitely feel, personally, in my life right now so happy and so strong”. But he reveals that most of the Standards and Practices meetings he’s had with FOX aren’t about the show’s violence, but rather the language, slang and the push back over his character’s sexuality.
Also making appearances throughout the first season are Ariana Grande, Nick Jonas, Oliver Hudson, Niecy Nash and Diego Boneta.
During class, the “Bang, Bang” singer looked like she was having a blast particularly during the arm workout where she was said to be dancing like she was at a concert with Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” playing in the background.
Ryan Murphy hinted that none of his characters are sacred cows and any of them can be killed off, at any time.
“We are all trying to look and behave in a certain way and this show flays the imagined behaviour of human beings and shows what we really are – inherently dark, unhappy, frustrated human beings who are trying to hold it together”.
The leading ladies dressed to the nines in flirty mini dresses as they chatted about their roles, show plotlines and who could possibly be the Red Devil killer among a house of sorority mean girls. If they knew, it’d tip their performances. He reveals that his actors send muffin baskets and aren’t above bribery to survive. “What’s interesting about the show is that every week stories come out about the things that these young women say and do in sororities all across the country – hazing rituals, etc”.
