Ryan Reynolds named ‘Sexiest Dad Alive!’ by People
So instead of pseudo-profound Batman or Iron Man-like pronouncements, the spandex-wearing super hero here dispenses an unending supply of one-liners.
But Deadpool is on a whole other level – a movie that puts its audaciousness in the forefront, even if it’s only mutated-skin-deep; a movie that makes space for violence, sex, and swear words, but never bites the hand feeding it by diverging from formula. That’s amusing, but it also makes it clear that, no, this isn’t from the madman’s perspective: Deadpool isn’t satire. Amid the most chaotic freeze-frame moment imaginable, Deadpool bills itself as being produced by “some asshats” and directed by “some pretentious douche”. We can not wait to see it! Make no mistake, Deadpool is an origin story-and a fairly standard one when you boil it down.
DEADPOOL is a amusing movie. More about that in a bit. “I really want to get that in”. The movie, which stars Ryan Reynolds as the motor-mouthed mercenary Wade Wilson, who is left with superhuman healing powers after a secret government experiment, has had a long road to theaters. “We all said at the beginning that someone should leak it, so the idea was planted, but I’m 70 percent sure it wasn’t me”.
“The problem with that concept was so much of the fighting in the film are character work”. There’s a ridiculously violent – and gory – action scene on a highway. The movie contains what is probably the first and will likely stand as the best ALIEN 3 reference, and Reynolds even gets to poke fun at himself (including an obligatory GREEN LANTERN putdown) on a few occasions. “We have all these movies coming along and they’re all very, very serious and … very gritty and dark”, Reynolds told Reuters.
Already unstable to begin with, he dons a mask, starts talking to the camera and goes gunning for the man who did this to him, evil “British villain” Ajax (Ed Skrein from The Transporter Refueled). He looks like a burn victim, Weasel. And the heroes either weep gloomily (Man of Steel) or try too hard to be amusing (Ultron).
The film also plays with time, jumping back and forth in Deadpool’s origin story, often pausing during the middle of the action. No cities are destroyed. “It’s a nice refreshing change of pace”, he said. What else to tell you? The X-Men Colossus (voiced by Stefan Kapicic) and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) ask Deadpool to join them in Professor Xavier’s mansion, but he replies, “That’s a big house”. The metallic mutant looks like a throwback to the early days of CGI. Well, filmed entirely naked: “There was a lot of me there”. I had a great time, though the incessant negativity and disregard for human life wore on me. Excuse me, just melting into a million tiny pieces over here. I kind of hope he doesn’t.
