Sacramento Police Make An Arrest In Spencer Stone Stabbing Incident
SACRAMENTO-The man thought to be responsible for stabbing hometown hero Spencer Stone in early October has been arrested.
Officers were investigating Tran and obtained an arrest warrant and a search warrant for his home on Dersingham Drive in the Vintage Park area, Somers said. Stone was stabbed four times during a fight on October 8 at 21st and K streets.
The fight started as a verbal argument after one of the groups videotaped the other, Somers said without elaborating.
A number of other people were questioned in the attack but none has been arrested, Somers said.
The fight broke out after member of Tran’s group used a cell phone to take video of women in Stone’s group, a police official told NBC News.
The Sacramento Police Department said previously: “We firmly believe that this is not a terrorism related event and that it is in no way related to the incident that occurred in France”. Their actions averted a possible mass shooting, authorities said. Somers elaborated that Tran was not aware of who Stone was, but said that he had “some affiliation with the gang” that attacked him. He was rushed to UC Davis Medical Center, where he underwent surgery.
Somers said detectives were able to make an arrest after receiving multiple tips that helped identify Tran as their lead suspect in the attack. Doctors “had to saw his chest open” to fix lacerations to his heart and liver and a collapsed lung, Eskel said.
In August, Stone and two other Americans, one a National Guardsman, subdued an armed terrorist aboard a train taking passengers from Amsterdam to Paris. An Air Force spokesman says Stone, who helped subdue an attacker on a Paris-bound train in August, is in stable condition after being stabbed in California.
Last week. the Air Force promoted Stone to staff sergeant in a brief ceremony at Travis Air Force Base, just outside Sacramento, where he is stationed.
