Sadio Mane closing on Liverpool move with medical coming on Monday
Sadio Mane is set undergo a medical at Liverpool on Monday ahead of completing his £30 million move from Southampton, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Klopp is known to be an admirer of Mane since his Red Bull Salzburg days and scouted the forward on several occasions to bring him to his former club Borussia Dortmund.
Sadio Mane has made 37 appearances for Southampton in the Premier League last season in which he has scored a total of 11 goals.
The 24-year-old’s impressive form has caught the attention of some of England’s top clubs with the BBC claiming that Liverpool have joined long-term admirers Manchester United in showing a keen interest in signing the attacker.
Mane will become the fifth player to to swap St Mary’s for Anfield in the past three seasons for a combined cost of £92m, following Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Nathaniel Clyne.
The story goes on to say that Mane is viewed by Reds boss Klopp as the ideal striker to add further strength to Liverpool’s attack next season.
Mane has been a good player for Southampton, but I am not sure he is worth the £35 million transfer fee.
He would add yet more firepower to a strike force that already includes Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and Danny Ings.
Liverpool should announce the move early this week, with Mane becoming the fourth arrival of the summer and the club’s third most expensive signing behind Christian Benteke and Andy Carroll.
The Senegalese global scored four goals in just three games against Jurgen Klopp’s side in 2015/16.
This transfer would mean another blow to Southampton, who just lost defensive midfielder Victor Wanyama to Tottenham and have just seen boss Ronald Koeman leave for Everton.
