Sadio Mane dropped for Southampton’s clash with Norwich – after being LATE for
“He was in the team, but he was too late in the meeting”, said Southampton manager Ronald Koeman.
Mane has been named among the substitutes at Carrow Road.
James Ward-Prowse benefitted from Mane’s shoddy timekeeping to take a place in Koeman’s XI, while Jordy Clasie replaced the suspended Oriol Romeu in midfield and Gary O’Neil was preferred to Graham Dorrans in the hosts’ only change.
“If we can get there quickly then you reassess your goal and I think you are always reassessing your goals with how you are playing”.
“We haven’t really got a whole combination of players who have both, so we need to mix and match a little bit to face certain teams”.
With top scorer Graziano Pelle out with a knee injury, Sadio Mane is Southampton’s next biggest goal threat.
With Monday’s loss Southampton have picked up only four points from their last seven league games, leaving the Saints in 12th spot on the table.
“We had a great talk from our chairman on Friday about the club, the team, about the respect, the ambition, the spirit, focus, concentration”.
“Also I’m angry about the second yellow card from Victor because a player with his experience needs to know if you already have a yellow in a game, that you can not do that tackle in that position on the pitch”.
“There have been a lot of discussions ongoing and we will see what we can manage over the course of this month”.
Southampton dominated large periods of the match and had the better chances. “That’s my worst disappointment of the day”.
The Saints, who destroyed leaders Arsenal 4-0 on Saturday, had a 1-0 lead at half time, but the Hammers clawed back and clinched the three points thanks to goals from Michail Antonio and Andy Carroll.
The Canaries looked more unsafe when Alex Neill introduced sub Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe came on and his neat work set up Tettey’s fine finish. “Jonny (Howson) had played the majority of the games, there is probably only two he hadn’t started, and he comes back in and gets us the crucial goal”.
Neil said: “We want to win again obviously”.
