Sadly, Chinese tourists die in Taiwan bus fire
A Taiwan tour bus carrying tourists has crashed into a highway railing en route to the airport and burst into flames, killing everyone on board, Taiwanese authorities said.
The coach crashed into a roadside barrier on a motorway in Taoyuan City.
The driver and the tour guide, both from Taiwan, were also killed.
Photos from the scene show the bus lodged against the highway’s guardrail, making it impossible to open the door.
The National Fire Agency released images of the charred vehicle on social media.
Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council issued a statement expressing regret over the “unfortunate incident”, saying the council and other government agencies will offer necessary assistance to victims’ families.
The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, authorities said.
Firefighters managed to douse the blaze within 30 minutes of the accident, but none of the passengers could escape the bus.
26 people, including 24 Chinese tourists, are dead after a tour bus caught fire in Taiwan. The party included three children aged 12 to 13, and the oldest tourist was 73.
Since then, 83 Chinese have died while on trips to Taiwan, including Tuesday’s victims. The six-year-old tour bus involved in the accident had a record of five traffic violations during its time in service.
Most of the tourists were from northeast China’s Liaoning Province. According to initial reports, all the deceased were Chinese tourists.
